New Philippine bank notes (same Ninoy-Cory saga of love)

Christmas will be extra special for Filipino kids this year because they will be receiving as "aginaldos" (cash gifts) the new bank notes which was only released last Thursday. These bills, which took almost three years to conceptualize and print, feature new elements that makes it more difficult for counterfeiters to copy.

Aside from Filipinos who played significant roles at various moments in our history (with their younger faces), the new bank notes also feature iconic natural wonders and numerous heritage sites our country is known for, together with the fauna specie found only in that specific area and a special artwork, weave, or print.

But the best change for me was the fact that late President Corazon Aquino now joins his husband Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino in the Php500 bill. I just find it romantic to see that from a forlorn-looking man to a revived, jovial one, it seemed Ninoy seemed happier that at last, they are together again. Not to mention that their son signs the said bill (and all others) as the President of the republic.

See old Php500 bill below:

Serious Ninoy
And now see his new expression together with the woman he fell in love with three times.
Aaaawww...
I found it imperative to keep copies of the present bill, which will still be legal tender for three more years, for my future kid(s?). For complete list of the new bank notes, click here.
Cheers,
Issa ^_^

"People think that a soulmate is your perfect fit, and that's what everyone wants. But a true soulmate is a mirror - the person who shows you everything that's holding you back, the person who brings you to your own attention so you can change your life. A true soulmate is probably the most important person that you'll ever meet because they tear down your walls and smack you awake. But to live with a soulmate forever? Nah, it's too painful."

Kaya ung carefree at who-the-hell-cares niyang pagsusulat, naging conscious at trying hard magpa-impress. Resulta? His worst book yet, baka mas malala pa ung mga susunod.

Bag, bagged, bagging (The Bag Show) - updated

, , , , , 0 comments

I bought a new bag from a direct selling company, and realized I have grown quite a collection of them, so I decided to take a pic:

Bags!

The head that inserted itself below belongs to my niece who, just recently, blown up to a size of a mini-sumo wrestler. So an idea immediately popped in: why not let her model my bags? Impromptu fashion show begun! (Notice that she got tired later on and just sat eating a donut. What a prima dona.)

Model for the day

DS (Direct selling bag)

Baguio bag! (Bought on my birthday when I celebrated it in Baguio with Udeng)

Another Baguio bag

Gift from Ate Myzel (should be purple, my fave color, but she couldn't find one)

From Vietnam, a gift from Mamu

I made myself using tons of safety pins

Donut bag! From Udeng

Bought in Mindoro when we went for Lola's wake :(

Free from Avon (as you can see with the model's expressions, she believes it was her bag and I'm just borrowing)
Another Vietnam-bought, a hand-me-down from Mamu
An ukay find! Nice no?

Laptop bag that I haven't used ever

Current laptop bag that have been gaining comments from officemates (from California - thanks Auntie Irene!)

DS bag (which I'm currently using - makes me feel professional, hehe!)
*From this point forward, our model will be sitting.*

DS Sling Bag

My fave body bag from ukay which I bought for Php 70! 'San ka pa?

Backpack, another fave

Beach bag that I'm planning to dye purple but haven't got around to doing it

DS Body bag I haven't used in a year

My Kipling bag (Only one from its family - I have at least four Kiplings. Mamu is connected to the manufacturer of Kipling, Jansport, The North Face, etc)

My formal party bag

Another Avon bag that Momoy (model) uses for her dolls

After an exhilarating photo shoot, we prepared lunch (actually, Udeng cooked, I just assembled) - BCT with fries!

Kiss the cheese

Udeng and Issa

*Side-thought: We have talked about people who are combining their names to form a new one. We agreed that it will be weird for us since our names together will be Eugene + Issa = Gene + Issa = Ginisa??!

Anyway, the shirt I'm wearing was a customized one. I found the joke at our company's database and decided I will definitely wear it. It reads like this:

Melai in I Do: "I know, right?"

Off to work!

Cheers,
Issa
UPDATE:
Just last night, I found this purple (my fave color) laptop backpack that I definitely need to have, so I bought it. (Actually, Udeng did.) Good thing Momoy's already awake before I went to office, so we had a photoshoot part 2.

Laptop bag!
More to come (I wish, I hope, I dream.)

Blogging hiatus ended... HP tee!

Almost a year after my last blog entry, was overwhelmed by other blogging sites.
Agenda for the day - clothes!
I am a frustrated designer who made my own baccalaureate and oath-taking (for CPA) dresses. My present fixation right now is... *drumroll* TSHIRTS! After spending tons to have them customized, I've discovered the answer to my problem - iron-on transfer paper. Whew! For my first project, what better time but the first screening of my wizard alter ego's movie.

Since the latest installment focuses on Hallows and Horcruxes, why not do one for each?

HORCRUX
Found this logo on Matt Dearden's site. Terrific, terrific sketch artist. Edited on Paint,
printed on a transfer paper, and ironed on a tank top! Result:

Udeng bought advanced tickets days before, so after office, we went to Market! Market! for our piece of the wizard game.
Pops!
Waiting...
It was a bit slow-paced than the other adaptations, but mostly for those who haven't read the book. Winner!

HALLOWS
Turned out our company movie night-out was the next day, so I need to charge overtime hours on my clothes-making clock. Decided to represent the last book's title and channel the master of death. Grabbed my vinyl transfer paper (no time for printing, just cutting) and immediately chopped off, then ironed again. Result:
Elder Wand + Ressurection Stone + Invisibility Cloak
Turned out I have to finish some documentation due for review the next day, so I was not able to join, but still rocked it on the client field work.
Client's CR
More to come!

Why networking? – WHY NOT?

Meredith Grey (Grey’s Anatomy) deliberated, “Why do I keep hitting myself with a hammer? Because it felt good when I stopped.” For the majority of the viewers, it was perceptive and touching. For some, however, it was deliberately annoying, melodramatic to some extent, and downright stupid. For these people, once is enough. When failure creeps in, it is game over for them. No ‘try again’ and no second chances. Be it in finding their one true love, their quest for success, and yes, their venture in the networking industry.

Who wouldn’t want a lucrative income? Networking promises that. It is depressing though that because of some persons’ greed and scheming to take advantage of those who are just trying to make their life easier by earning more, networking scams were developed. Day after day, we are bombarded by negative news about this to the point that networking became synonymous with fraud, sham, swindling, and deception.

The predicament is this: how do we distinguish the real ones? Here are some pointers I learned:

1. There must be a revolving product. A networking company that doesn’t offer anything is not a company. It is not even a legal business at all. Unless they figured out a way to sell promises (which I bet they did, if they were able to fool a lot of people), look for their flagship product.

2. A limitation for bonuses must exist. So they say they are offering “unlimited referral bonus!” don’t shout “Whoopee!” just yet. Think, and think hard: if they are giving away all their receipts as bonuses, how can they earn? Ano ‘to, lokohan?

3. You WORK in order to EARN. It is the basic—and the only—rule in the corporate and entrepreneurship world. Simply put, your investment will not multiply by itself. Say a networking company urges you to invest a certain amount of money, earning as much as 3% a day with you not doing anything at all. It is unbelievable and by itself doubtful, but some people are still hooked. Why? Because it is too good to be true, and they are fervently, zealously hoping/wishing/dreaming for it to come true. Come on! Even long-term deposits only go up as much as 12 to 15% a year! Three percent a day equals 90% a month, which is a long way from 20% like your good old 5-6 lending system. Also, some people who are joining the real networking groups are expecting checks when they are not doing anything at all. Excuse me, you paid for the products, as well as the right to become a dealer/partner; you did not buy a share of stock in that company to be waiting for some kind of dividend to come rushing into you. You want to earn? Sell your products! You want to earn? Refer your friends and relatives! Ganun lang kasimple.

I know, I know, your first venture into networking turned out to be a hoax. But don’t let it stop you from wanting a better life. Did Colonel Sanders stop persisting after 1,009 rejections on his chicken recipe? If he did, then we would never know Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC). Did Thomas Edison stop after failing thousands of times before inventing the incandescent bulb? I could give you a thousand more success stories, but you can just Google it for yourself. (All thanks to the World Wide Web and wireless fidelity, which are also success stories on their own.) Don’t rob yourself of the chance to try one more time. Who knows? Today might be your day.

Okay, so what I really want to say is that opportunity knocks just once, and if you won’t grab it now, we’ll make sure all your friends and relatives will grab it, and by the time you believe in the business, they are already financially successful. Will you let yourself be left behind? Skeptics ask me, “Why networking?” and to them all I say, “Why NOT?”

P.S. Okay, so I am an Accounting graduate, and by profession, I should be cynical about this. I had been in this industry for just a WEEK when my whole family (Mama and 4 sisters) and my boyfriend became members last Tuesday (02.23.10). Next week at the release of checks, Mama will receive Php9,000.00, oldest sister will receive Php7,000.00, and both me and my youngest sister (who haven’t referred anyone yet) will receive Php1,000.00 through matching bonus. Not bad, huh? Also I've met there RNs, engineers, realtors, and students from FEU, CEU, Lyceum, and PUP, just to name some.

P.P.S. Also answering “Why NOT?”? Contact me, and I’ll tell you the story of “Barya King.” -09234788688

P.P.P.S. Fellow networkers, if you can add something to my list of pointers, that would be awesome. ^_^

Don’t forget the lyrics: Teleberd?! [10.28.09/12:47]

Parang human chain. Tapos iikot sila habang kumakanta ng “Younger, together again! My love for you is yuki yuki you!” na dapat hindi mahuhulog yung mga paa nila.

PBB DU side thoughts:

What is your best physical asset?

Melai: My best physical asset is my hair, because you can see it is very curly but I don’t think it is my greatest asset but I think it is my greatest asset. *make face* Please do not be angry…

Tibo: Cooking…
Physical asset?
Tibo: Oh, physical asset. Understanding.
Physical! Your physical asset. (motioning and pointing at face)
Tibo: Yes, yes, physical asset. Well, I’m a simple guy. I’m understanding…
Physical, when you look at the mirror, what do you see?
Tibo: Uhm, I’m a simple guy…
Dude! No, I mean in your face! Eyes, ears, nose… Tibo: Nose, my nose.

*Whew.*

earth day jam '08

Jamming with mother earth!!

From the booths to docus shown on the screens, Tomas Morato Ave. spoke of saving the earth during the Earth Day Jam ’08 held April 25, 2008.

Udeng and I met up at Cubao after office hours (just enough time to make it to the seven-o’clock sched). I planned on wearing a white shirt as a rebellion to all who I know would be wearing their black grunge shirts. However, I realized that I haven’t done my laundry, so I have to make do with my only black statement shirt. So much for not being a stereotype rocker.

One guy had done it better, though. On the way to Jollibee for a quick bite (many, many quick bites, that is), I saw him in his sleeping attire. Complete with pajamas, comfy slippers and teddy bear, it’s as if he just wound up in that place while making his way to their kitchen looking for a midnight snack. His ingenious idea is a slap to hundreds of youths in Morato that night who all wanted to be different and ended up sporting the same I-hate-the-world grunge look.

Another girl who passed by me went beyond simple accouturement. Opting for a more permanent fashion bling, she had a large zipper tattooed across her back. Only when she went up the stage did I knew her to be Juan Pablo Dream's newest band member, Bianca.

Because we arrived a tad too early, we were at the front. But not for long, though. When the multitude started their all-out “slaman” and girls started zoning out, Udeng pulled me to the sides.

The first sets were time-killers, but every concert has them. It really started for me once Barbie Almalbis took the stage, sharing her experiences as a mother and singing Goodnight, Torpe, and two other songs about nature. Moonstar88 sang Tadhana, Torete, and Migraine (our soundtrack when fighting… ^_^ ). Callalily sang a rock version of a Soulja Boy song (Crank That, I think) -- a feat never unheard of, but quite remarkable, nonetheless.

What I was really waiting for was Zelle, but it was nearing 12, and CinderIssa must go home before turning into a pumpkin. (Truth is, Udeng cautioned that we may not have a ride home, and we’re both tired from work.) We gave the concert one more chance, but when Rivermaya came out and it’s certain that there would be no sign of Zelle or Imago for the next few minutes, we decided to call it a night.

We passed different booths selling used books, and I had gone berserk that I don’t have any money with me (I shouldn’t had that extra rice!). I also would have like to buy an audio cd by pipingpoot (I don’t know who he is, but his cd’s were handwritten and it looks different and cute.) We weren’t able to buy any souvenir (huhu..) but still, it is a memorable night on the whole. On second thought, ANY night with him is memorable, so that’s that.

**
Artists: Let’s save the earth!
Earth Day Jammers: Yeah! (Stomps their cigarette butts, and lights new one)
Issa: (Hums) Isn’t it ironic, don’t you think…

TRIVIA: My all-time favorite writer and world dominatrix, Jessica Zafra, managed the Eraserheads for four months.

Ended my two-month gig in a computer shop, so i have to lie low on posting.. got a summer accounting job, and was learning so much!

Going strong with udeng, despite our i hate you-i love you so much charades.. anyway, even if how much we try, we can never have too much of each other. He had amoebiasis (Crusaders forgive me if i spelled it wrong) and I was there the whole 3 days (udeng: no one ever tended me when I was sick, issa: well, you could say bye-bye to those times), even taking half-days in office.

Vacation's fast disappearing, and there's still so much i need to do. So little time..

I realized we are all growing up so fast. It seems that we had just enrolled and were enjoying chasing each other on rooftops and hanging out in the student lounge until the school guard will shoo us out.

My favorite cousins were all having their own jobs, just like me. Now I can treat all of them during payday, when years ago I would be the one treated.

And as much as it seems ages away for me, my parents started talking about being responsible and enjoying my single blessedness before getting maried/getting babies/getting separated. The funny thing is, it naturally occurs to me this days. Good thing we (Udeng and I) have been open about it and we agreed that we still both want our freedom--and our paychecks.

I guess we have come to love each other that way because we can be separated and have our own identities and at the same time be one--a single individual with dual personalities. A double spirit inhabiting one body.

And not everyone can find that one person who doesn't complement them, but completes their downfalls and shortcomings, just as much as they complete theirs.

I guess I'm really lucky, afterall.

TAMA NA-ITAMA NA!

TAMA NA--ITAMA NA!! These were our words to the public as we walked amidst the rain from don bosco to paseo de roxas, getting encouragement from bystanders and motorists by cheering us and blowing their horns. Joining my very first rally (despite receiving a text mesage from boy etnad saying "wag kaung sasama sa rally ni karen") i was overwhelmed with how the Filipinos, particularly the students and church leaders, react to our present situation. (And i was starstrucked to see former VP Teofisto Guingona standing a few feet from me--Mama, ibili mo na ko ng camera!!) Our school president got tired of signature campaigns, and decided to take the next step and join the interfaith rally along with at most 80,000 people. Students from Basic Education Curriculum from all over Manila who were too young to join conducted a noise barrage at exactly 3 pm.

The night before, Coco Pimentel visited our school (Ma, ung camera!!) and talked about electoral fraud and corruption, informing us that because of the NBN-ZTE anomaly, our already burgeoning debt just increased by P400 per individual.

Really, would it hurt us not to have broadband connections in our government offices, when more than half of the youth can't afford to go to school? When we are always flooded, but we buy our drinking water? When school in remote places share a book, or doesn't even have one? Presently, our social pyramid experiences a volcanic effect. Just like what Pimentel explained, one is either very rich, or very poor--the number of middle-class people decreases. There are thousands of projects they can focus on. If the administration can really have $329 million (more than 16 billion pesos), then why put it on a project that can be considered a luxury? (Only one in ten Filipinos own a computer, and not all even have internet connection.)

Luigi Tabuena of the Black and White movement stressed that if you followed the senate hearings, you don't need to be a rocket scientist to know who is telling the truth and who is not. They put war paints on their faces because "it is a war, we've come here to make a statement.. and i know that all over the country this is happening, in different sectors and different magnitude." (Watch his interview.)

Too bad i really admire GMA for being a great economist. And I realized she really is--to the extent of seeing the country as one great business. She invested money in order to win, and now she's getting it back--plus interest. In Pimentel's words, she wouldn't care about the people because "they didn't vote for me, they didn't put me here--i bought my way here!" (Remember the Garci scandal: "Hello Garci, would I still lead by a million votes?")

It is deeply saddening that Philippines could never have a great President for the lure of money and power is too much, but i just hope that our system could change.. even just a bit.. because Filipinos our getting sick of it all and are trying to find Utopia in foreign soils (as if there is one), and i don't want to be one of them. I love being a Filipino, and as much as i wanted to tour the Europe and the Disneyland, i feel proud that hundreds of thousands of tourists went to our country for our own natural treasures. I will always come back to the Philipines and experience them firsthand.

we are..

for a hundred bucks, we have enjoyed watching the "we are!" concert celebrating pcc's 95th founding anniversary at the upper courtside level (sa gallery dapat.. salamat sa koneksyon!) and witnessed different showcases of talent from students, faculties, non-teaching staff, guest performers from MAPSA schools, and from Monsi himself, aside from guest celebrities like acel santos of the pinoy pop superstar fame, arnel ignacio ("prayer rally ba to?"), roxanne barcelo who didn't make the crowd very responsive, and kris lawrence who, by swift dance moves and great voice made the girls swoon and dance from their seats (literally!)

the next concert will happen in the centennial celebration of PCC in 2013, hopefully by then we could watch and reconnect with old acquaintances, all of us being young professionals already..

"money, money, ayoko ng whammy!"

i never really get that game.. nde ako nawiwili pag nagkukunwari na clang awayin c whammy when everyone knowa na computer-generated n lng un.. hehe!

mahirap tlaga kumita ng pra.. khit mgmukha kg tanga on national television..

(wowowee was in the Guinness Book of World Records for the noontime show with the biggest number of deaths -- stampede, 74 casualties)

at meron na ring umiiyak sa eat bulaga dahil wala dw clang pera!

my first reaction was, "wala kng pera? mali pinuntahan mo! dpat dun ka sa wowowee!" but then namimigay n din nga pla ang eat bulaga..

good thing i wouldn't have to do that..

(yehey!)

mejo maliit sweldo ko dahil 4 days lng ako pumasok.. ung tipong 2 days pa lng ubos na cgurado.. pro okei lng, i have evrything planned out for today..

  1. susunduin nya ko pag out ko ng 12.
  2. kakain kme ng lunch sa knila.
  3. magpapahinga.
  4. face mask time!

"do you know the feeling where everything feels right? Where you don't have to worry about tomorrow or yesterday? Where you feel safe and know that you are doing the best you can? There's a word for that feeling. It's called LOVE. L-O-V-E. And it's what i felt for all my family and all my coaches in my neighborhood where i came from -- where I learned how to spell."

write it down a thousand times,
four-letter word that makes me cry,
how i feel about it i can't decide
no, i don't know, so i'll improvise..

is it living in our heart
or in our mind?
i don't know..

so, World, ready or not, here i go,
searching for the answer
and i'm not gonna stop
till i find where it lingers inside me..

how does it come to be?
what should it mean to me?
teach me the definition
of true love

i was so afraid i'd never succeed
but you made me feel i could do anything
memorize the things we would say and do
must be the love and the strength
that i found in you

love only feels good
true love always believes
and it gives way the boundaries
willing to sacrifice unconditionally

teach me the definition
of true love...

i feel it when:
>i'm hanging out with my cousins (bhebhe, frodo, kuya anlon na hindi naliligo, okiks, ima, chandrei, etc. etc.)
>i'm watching tv, squabbling, reminiscing, fighting with kareen
>i look at udeng. (need i explain?)
>i'm eating ice cream propped with pillows in front of the tv.
>i won my first medal in rizal high for math.
>i'm shopping in guadalupe or divisoria.
>i finished reading a novel.
>i look after dash.
>i watched a feel-good movie.
>i answered correctly in class.
>i'm having a good time with friends.
>i heard my LSS on the jeepney radio.
>papa visits us.
>i'm with someone and i can burp or fart and just laugh about it.
>i saw my favorite teacher.
>i'm watching cute children making faces in a jeep.
>i receive letters.
>i give out letters.
>i see an exquisite flower.
>i'm in a secluded beach.
>i go hiking.
>someone calls me on the phone.
>someone texts me.
>i can be myself all the time.
>my guardian angel, kimberly, wakes me up when i forgot to alarm my phone.
>there is so many instances and there's no time to put it all down.
>everytime i'm with Him. (which makes it everytime, period.)

"Let me tell you about Dylan--there's only one person who can push him to spell as well as he can possibly can. It's not his dad, it's not his spelling bee people, it's not even himself.. that person is YOU. So when you and I get to DC, let's make sure we get him a run for his money." Mr. L to Akeelah
